Escape Halloween is one of the biggest Halloween electronic festivals in the world, and it has a trap in it that catches people every year: the cold. It runs 30 to 31 October 2026 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, two nights of headliners, haunted-carnival production and costumes, with gates in the late afternoon and the music running deep into the night. San Bernardino in late October is warm and dry when you walk in, easily mid-20s, and it feels like you overpacked. Then the sun goes down, the desert-valley air drops hard, and by 2am it is close to freezing. You are dressing for a warm evening and a cold, cold night in the same costume. Why a hoodie beats a costume alone
The thing nobody tells first-timers about Escape Halloween is how cold a Southern California desert valley gets once the sun is down. You show up in the warm, your costume looks incredible, and for two hours you feel smug about how little you are wearing. Then the temperature falls off a cliff, and the last four hours, which are the best hours, are spent freezing and miserable and eyeing the exit.
A hoodie fixes the whole problem and can be part of the costume rather than a compromise on it. A skeleton or skull hoodie reads as a fit, not an afterthought, so you are dressed for the theme and dressed for the cold at the same time. Wear it or tie it round your waist while it is still warm, then have it on your back for the midnight crash and the long, cold walk to the rideshare lot. The NOS Events Center grounds are big, dry and dusty, and you will cover serious ground between stages and mazes, easily 15,000 steps a night. This is a footwear decision before anything else. Wear closed, broken-in trainers you genuinely do not mind covering in dust, because that is exactly what will happen. Skip anything with a heel or an open toe, because you are on your feet and on the move for hours, and the ground is not kind. Comfort and grip beat looks every time once you are actually walking it.
What not to wear
A costume that only works when you are warm, because you will not be warm for most of the night. Fresh white sneakers on dry, dusty ground. Anything you would be genuinely upset to lose, because things get dropped and trampled across a two-night festival. And too little, full stop, because the desert-valley cold is the single thing that ends people’s nights early. Dress so that when the temperature drops you barely notice, and you free up all your attention for the only thing that matters, which is the music.

Getting around the festival
The NOS Events Center is in San Bernardino, and most people arrive by rideshare or organised shuttle rather than driving and parking. Build in real time for the pick-up at the end, because a festival this size floods the lots and the wait at 2am is long and cold. Screenshot the site map and the set times before your phone dies, agree a meeting point with your group, and carry a portable charger. It is dry, so rain is rarely the issue, but the cold is, so keep that hoodie on you rather than checked.
